“Globe” T-shirt
(July 2023). This is my first project that I used both Photoshop and Illustrator at any stage in a project and helped me to learn the basics of Photoshop and graphic design. Illustrator was used to make the general design such as the globe, star logo, and the chest logo, while I used Photoshop to apply effects to the globe and make it appear similar to the ones you would see in the class room. I also used Photoshop to create a mockup of what the shirt would look like before I actually had it made.
The design of the shirt is based around the concept that inspiration transcends distance and can help to give birth to an idea in a different part of the world. The design is fairly forward with the globe being modeled after globes seen in classrooms. The visual texture effect on the globe is meant to bring a person back to them dragging their finger across a globe as a child. The part of the world that is being displayed is very intentional as well, as Africa is the considered the birthplace of humanity and therefore could be a seen as the birthplace of idea. India is also displayed as the sub-continent has given things such as philosophy and culture to the world, eventually inspiring people to take up popular practices such as yoga. Europe is pictured because of the role it played in ancient times, serving as a hub for western thought and philosophy in general, and eventually inspiring and leading to things we still use today such as certain forms of government. Finally, South America is barely pictured to the bottom left to represent the ambition that comes from inspiration and how it can lead us to places we never expected, as this was somewhere that people didn’t know of initially, but once stumbled upon quickly began to make voyages to continue learning about the continent.
Overall, I am pleased with how this project came out. For being my first time using Photoshop, I was able to create a design I like and create a mockup to show to the person doing the screen printing the vision I had for the final product. I would still like to continue using Photoshop and learning the program so that I could do more things with graphic design in the future.
